Page 182, last paragraph: the work camp was in Aachen, Germany, where two decades later, I performed with that youth chorale (see Music chapter). Nadia's also-captive husband-to-be was Polish. Sooner or later, I get it right.

Page 183, first line: Dad led prayer groups... I'd like to blame the voice recognition, but it's really the responsibility of the chief proofreader. Moi.

Slightly embarrassing flaws crop up throughout. One relatively benign example: my random capping regimen of subtitles. I know you can tolerate these gaffs.

Page 408, line 12, should read: 83

Page 447: that certainly is a special comma in the third paragraph.

Page 462, bottom of 4th paragraph should read: ... as grim as ...

Page 475, line 5: PERHAPS the hyphen should be placed between the "o" and the "j". But I've chosen to let it stand as a tribute to the multifariousness of my message.

Middle of page 481, that 56 should be a subscript.

In the footnote of page 550, I refer to the "next" chapter. It should actually be the "final" chapter, specifically the last three lines of page 573.

How immeasurably, charitable, & inspiration got past the spell check on page 556, I dunno.

It has come to my attention that my friends in India (and perhaps other places about this earth) might be concerned about my usage of "asshole buddy" in the text. No reference or inference is intended regarding anything sexual or actually relating to the anus. I particularly enjoy relationships with a handfull of folks. Some are dear family members, some are close friends, but only a small number rank at the top. They are my asshole buddies. It's an American (possibly British, Canadian, Australian, etc.) figure of speech. http://listserv.linguistlist.org/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0402A&L=ads-l&P=17156 It's easy to see how the phrase could be interpreted in other fashions.

Then there's GOD According to God (Gerald L. Schroeder). "It's not a question of consciousness arising from matter. It is rather quite the opposite, of matter arising from consciousness."

Did you catch this?
http://billmoyers.com/segment/jacob-hacker-paul-pierson-on-engineered-inequality/

The book Winner Take All Politics describes our present condition in the US; my book focuses upon the essence of the final 30 seconds of the Moyers interview with these authors.

WE CAN OVERCOME, if we put our mind and hearts to it.

The task of undoing our ignorance, greed, and slothfulness won't be easy. But the initial process itself is. Vote in legislators who actually care for and work for ALL their constituents, instead of just the powerful (read wealthy) who pander to our weaknesses and get us to eschew our interests.

Not an easy task for the masses. To wit: I vehemently espouse this, yet continue to make a mess of my life. So is my "Let's rally to ameliorate our collective condition" a wet noodle without teeth, or merely symptomatic of humanity's inertia?

DO WHAT I SAY, NOT WHAT I DO.

I Never Promised You A Rose Garden

Woe be to my stalwart readers who pour over my literal onomatopoeia. The survivors, those who fail to put the book down, will embroil themselves in circuitous adventures, jumbled time lines, sporadic pontifications, and incessant ramblings about me me me (and an occasional thee) which do not an engaging read make.

Was it ever represented otherwise? The cover, depicting a loon, says it in spades. But is humanity all that different? Interacting with universal forces cavorting about, we blithely careen through life. Lessons to learn abound; we remember and we forget.

Will we ever grok that the universe reflects upon itself through us?

Would readers struggle to get past my rambling? Would my prissy ego-maniacal prose prove valuable and effective? Would a (the?) thread be recognizable as representative of humanity's path? Clearly, and generally, NOT.

Were it not for my vanity, aggrandizement, and penchant for the unconventional blended with the prosaic, my sentiments might well have traction. Oh well, I have done my best…

Wake up and smell the roses, people. We’re in deep shit, yet opportunities abound. Perhaps never before has mankind been so much at the wheel of its destiny, manifesting as a clueless, reckless driver.

While the script appears to be all about the author, hopefully you realize that he merely serves as a mannequin to be scrutinized. A sample template of the grand picture, the way we are. The fourth wall is not opaque.

Whatever. You may, or may not, agree that humankind has choices re the selection of its future. But you certainly won't want to follow the blind, dumb, self-centered path of this author.

Well, at least I gave it this shot. My job has been to observe, participate, and relate. The rest is up to you.

In short (so uncharacteristically moi), the rambling vanity of this author, mostly thinking and being from the perspective inside his own skin, not so much connected to the universe, totally represents humankind's shortsightedness about our nature as a creative cause. Yet we can (and should?) appreciate that our trials, tribulations, and triumphs contribute well as we go to God.

"As the Republicans implement economic policies that hurt these people – this is at the heart of your book – they continue to vote for them."

To some degree, we are all Kansans. LLO confirms that I fit the mold. While fully capable of shaping my destiny, I seem to go out of my way to muck up my life. Most humans share this propensity, to some degree. Americans head the list, often seemingly preferring to elect legislators who ultimately work against their best interests. Will HH ever kick in?

Slightly embarrassing flaws crop up throughout. One relatively benign example: my random capping regimen of subtitles. I know you can tolerate these gaffs.

Page 76, last paragraph, should be: glance to my right.

Page 182, last paragraph: the work camp was in Aachen, Germany (not Poland), where two decades later, I performed with that youth chorale (see Music chapter). Nadia's also-captive husband-to-be was Polish. Sooner or later, I get it right.

Page 183, first line: Dad led prayer groups... I'd like to blame the voice recognition, but it's really the responsibility of the chief proofreader: moi.

Page 301: Where do all those commas come from? Please imagine the one after second (fourth line from the bottom) not being there. I promise to never ever over-use commas from now on.
Yeah, right.

Page 315: subsequent efforts on my part to verify the veracity of that German mini-sub narrative have failed. Great story, in any event.

Page 330: Ok, ok. I thought I be cool at the bottom of the third paragraph. Make that knock your socks off, if you insist. But you should still check out that subscript 39.

Page 408, line 12, should read: 83 (Not that you really care, since you probably skipped over those two paragraphs, anyway.)

Page 447: that certainly is a special comma in the third paragraph.

Page 462, 4th paragraph, should read: ... overnight... (second line) and ... as grim as ... (bottom line).

Page 475, line 5: PERHAPS the hyphen should be placed between the "o" and the "j". But I've chosen to let it stand as a tribute to the multifariousness of my message.

Middle of page 481: that 56 should be a subscript.

Page 528, third paragraph: you may prefer the verb come. But my "glorious observations and wise commentary" is a singularity in this instance; goes with my wonderful swampland for sale...

Page 548, last paragraph: PERHAPS the tense should suggest an ongoing process. I.e., God opens His cosmos to us as we become equipped to deal. (I'll leave this detail up to the reader.)

Page 550, footnote: I refer to the next chapter. It should actually be the final chapter, specifically the last three lines of page 573.

Page 551, fourth paragraph: I treat "grit and smell" as a singularity. However, some critics suggest that I might have "them" permeate the roadway. Details, details.

Page 556: How immeasurably, charitable, & inspiration got past the spell check, I dunno. Perhaps after 555 pages, the software became overwhelmed...

If so inclined, please point out other typographical and factual indiscretions at http://larklemmingblog.blogspot.com/2008/10/traipse-through-perspicuity.html

These are my asshole buddies, to utilize a questionable American (possibly British, Canadian, Australian, etc.) figure of speech. http://listserv.linguistlist.org/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0402A&L=ads-l&P=17156 It's easy to see how the phrase could be interpreted in other fashions.
